Story Feature
On the morning of September 11, 2001, dozens of elevators in the World Trade Center turned into hurtling coffins when two commercial airliners crashed into the towers. Most of the hundreds of people who were traveling in the buildings' elevators were either killed instantly or made their escape within a matter of seconds, but several others were caught on elevators that had stopped between floors--trapped, with no way out. In this 9/11 special, survivors tell their wrenching stories about the horrors of being trapped in the burning towers and their amazing fight to survive. Some of them have never before shared the drama of their escape with television viewers. But now, against actual footage from the day, re-enactments, and vivid graphics, the passengers on World Trade Center elevators recount how they were caught in a cruel twist of fate and how by luck or by sheer determination they managed to cheat death.
9:00AM
Story Feature
On September 11, 1941, the U.S. War Department broke ground on a massive new five-sided headquarters that would rise to become the ultimate symbol of the American military. 60 years to the day after construction began, a hijacked airliner crashed into the building as part of the largest coordinated terror attack ever on American soil. Told by the men and women who lived it, this is the dramatic story of what happened inside the building in the harrowing minutes after impact; a raw eyewitness account of tragedy, heroism, and survival on the day that forever transformed a nation.
10:00AM
Story Feature
Featuring interviews with key political figures including President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Rudolph Giuliani, Michael Bloomberg, and media heavy hitters Dan Rather, Tom Brokaw, and Matthew Broderick, this documentary event examines 9/11 through the lens of the last 15 years. Brought to life by photos declassified in 2016, recently released documents from the 9/11 commission, and never before heard stories from photographers and first responders, a new perspective will arise to provide an unrivaled viewpoint of the historic attack.
12:00PM
Story Feature
A firefighter searching for the body of his life-long friend; a teenage girl mourning her stepfather; a Franciscan friar ministering to the dead; the future FDNY Chief of Department worrying about a potential building collapse. These are just a few of the thousands of people captured by photographer Andrea Booher, who had unprecedented access to the rescue and recovery operations at Ground Zero. Booher uses the battered green notebook she carried at the Trade Center to track down the people in nearly a dozen of her favorite pictures and gets them to tell, for the first time, the riveting personal stories behind the photographs.
2:00PM
Story Feature
Tracks the ten-year effort to find Osama bin Laden, the man responsible for the 9/11 attacks and the leader of the terrorist group al-Qaeda. Based on the 9/11 Memorial & Museum's unprecedented access to American intelligence and military personnel, the film recounts how President Barack Obama ordered a small group of Navy SEALs to raid a mysterious building in Pakistan, without ever being sure that Bin Laden was there. Featuring interviews with President Obama, CIA Director Leon Panetta, mission commander Admiral William McRaven, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and, for the first time, clandestine military planners, intelligence analysts, members of the assault force, and more, the film reveals the risks and tensions of a mission whose purpose was clear, but whose outcome was never certain.
